South Delta AAA, through networking with other agencies, offers the ways and means through which assistance to Older Americans can be obtained.

 

Child Care

Child Care
Child Care services include IV-A/Transitional Child Care (TCC) and Child Care Development Block Grant (CCDBG).

TANF Program
The Technical Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) Program is operated to enhance the potential for welfare client self-sufficiency attainment.

 

Economic Development

Economic Development
SDPDD's role in economic development is to act as a catalyst through the packaging of available funds to assist in locating industry. This priority is set forth in the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) and the Overall Economic Development Program (OEDP). Through a cooperative effort with the private sector, local units of government, and other interested parties, the District works to improve the employment opportunities and quality of life for area citizens. By assuring adequate infrastructure to support industry and by providing financing programs, SDPDD supports the goal of reducing unemployment and raising per capita income to the national average.

Development of Local Plans
SDPDD assists governments in preparing comprehensive plans, land use plans, housing plans, transportation plans and zoning ordinances in an effort to stay in compliance with state law. Since these plans cover a 20-25 year period, they are required to address goals and objectives, and at a minimum, residential, commercial, and industrial development.

 

Loans

Revolving Loan Programs
The District operates multi-source Revolving Loan Programs which provide gap financing and loan assistance for small businesses. A full-time small business developer is available to assist in the creation / expansion of small businesses in the district.

 

Planning, Community Development & Housing

Assisting in Housing Needs
SDPDD assists its member governments in providing low and moderate income residents a decent and safe home in which to live. The District has utilized and pooled the resources of the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development, Rural Economic and Community Development, HOME Corporation, and Federal Home Loan Bank in accessing grants and low interest loans to assist both low income homeowners and renters through homeowner rehabilitation and assistance toward home ownership.

Community Development
Overseen by the Department of Economic and Community Development, SDPDD assists member governments in applying for and administering the Community Development Block Grant. This program assists local governments, who lack the resources and capital, to upgrade infrastructure and to provide other much needed community services.

Geographic Information System
The District has implemented a Geographic Information System (GIS) with the capabilities of assisting member governments in statistical information.

Health
SDPDD has been active in securing funds for health facilities in its counties.

Housing
The District continues studying and developing a feasibility plan for eligible projects.

Promotion of Job Creation
While supporting the "Overall Economic Development Program" as the District's guide for growth, staff continues to work with local officials to bring projects into reality. This includes seeking all available funding assistance, such as loans, either through SDPDD, the Mississippi Development Authority, or through the Community Development Block Grant program and the Economic Development Administration.

Regional Clearinghouse
SDPDD serves as a regional clearinghouse for federal programs. The District is designated by the Census Bureau as a State Data Center Affiliate and maintains demographic information for the six-county area.

Regional Programs
SDPDD has been the lead agency in organizing and seeking funding for a regional program for the six-county area.

 

Delta Workforce Investment Area

Workforce Investment Act
SDPDD has been selected by the Delta Workforce Investment Board to be the fiscal agent to administer $13,000,000 throughout the fourteen county workforce area. One-Stop Centers have been created and Youth Programs have been implemented.
